3 Things We Bet You Didn't Know About Being 60+

Just a couple generations ago, the thought of turning 60 years old seemed nearly impossible. But today, average life expectancy in the U.S. is 78+ years, according to the World Bank.

While you might be wondering how much you'd enjoy life at that age, we're betting life would be much more exciting than you'd think. Here's what it's really like to be 60-70 years old:

1. You'd likely be an activist.

If you turned 60 years old this year, you'd have lived through a life of significant cultural change:

  • You'd have listened to Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech - in real time.
  • You'd experienced home life evolve from nuclear families with 3.5 kids to more eclectic families with only 1.87 kids.
  • You'd have lived through women outpacing men in higher education and increasingly joining the workforce.

You'd be political and opinionated on social issues by default. And, there's a 40%+ chance you'd still be volunteering for your favorite causes, too.

2. There's a good chance you'd still be working.

According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly one third of adults 65-74 are working. While retirement finances may be a concern, continuing to work is likely a good thing! Adults over 60  are using their retirement, or would-be-retirement, years to pursue encore careers with purpose and passion.

3. You'd still be getting it on.

Think sex has an expiration date? Thankfully, it does not! According to our research, 46% of men and 38% of women ages 60 to 70 are getting it on at least once a week. A healthy sex life is not just for the young and the benefits are obvious.
